Mechanisms for lasing with cold atoms as the gain medium.
We realize a laser with a cloud of cold rubidium atoms as gain medium, placed in a low-finesse cavity. Three different regimes of laser emission are observed corresponding, respectively, to Mollow, Raman, and four-wave mixing mechanisms. We measure an output power of up to 300 microW and present the main properties of these different lasers in each regime.

2. Materials, fabrication, and characterization To overcome the insolubility problem of the inorganic precursor salts of rare-earth dopant ions in the polymer host, the Nd 3+ ions were encapsulated in a stable organic complex, Nd(TTA)3phen (TTA = thenoyltrifluoroacetone, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) (Fig. 1a). The Nd-complex was dissolved into the polymer waveguide material, a solution of 6-FDA/...

We present an experimental demonstration of both quadrature and polarization entanglement generated via the interaction between a coherent linearly polarized field and cold atoms in a high finesse optical cavity. The nonlinear atom-field interaction produces two squeezed modes with orthogonal polarizations which are used to generate a pair of nonseparable beams, the entanglement of which is dem...
متن کاملPhotoassociation spectroscopy of laser-cooled ytterbium atoms.
We report the photoassociation spectroscopy of laser-cooled ytterbium atoms in an optical trap. We observed more than 90 photoassociation resonances of vibrational levels in the (1)Sigma(+)(u) state, including 80 consecutive series, up to 490 GHz detuning with respect to the atomic resonance. From the resonance frequencies we derived the atomic radiative lifetime of the (6s6p) 1P1 state to be 5...
متن کاملHigh power, continuous-wave ytterbium-doped fiber laser tunable from 976 to 1120 nm.
We report on a linearly-polarized, continuous-wave Ytterbium-doped fiber laser continuously tunable on the fly over an unprecedented emission bandwidth ranging from 976 nm to 1120 nm and delivering a minimum of 10 W and a maximum of 41 W. Additionally, the bandwidth of the system can be tuned from 100 pm to more than 1 nm at all wavelengths.
